Shopify Fee & Profit Calculator

See your real profit per Shopify order after payment processing — and whether your price and margin actually work.

How Shopify fees work

Shopify isn't a marketplace, so there's no commission on each sale — your main per-order cost is payment processing: 2.9% + $0.30 on Basic (less on higher plans). On top of that you pay a monthly subscription, and a surcharge if you use a non-Shopify payment gateway.

profit = price + shipping − (rate% × total + $0.30) − item cost − shipping cost

Frequently asked questions

How much does Shopify take per sale?

On the Basic plan, Shopify Payments charges 2.9% + $0.30 per online order. It drops to about 2.7% on the Shopify plan and 2.5% on Advanced. Unlike a marketplace, there is no per-sale commission — just payment processing (plus your monthly subscription).

Are there extra fees if I do not use Shopify Payments?

Yes. If you use a third-party gateway like PayPal or Stripe instead of Shopify Payments, Shopify adds a transaction surcharge on top (2% on Basic, less on higher plans) — so most sellers use Shopify Payments to avoid it.

Does Shopify charge fees on shipping I collect?

Payment processing applies to the full amount the customer pays, including shipping. This calculator lets you add shipping you charge so the fee is accurate.
